  • Fonteyn House: A £65M Restored Masterpiece in Knightsbridge

Nestled in the heart of Knightsbridge, one of London's most prestigious neighbourhoods, luxury developer Caudwell has unveiled a new masterpiece—Fonteyn House on Thurloe Place. This magnificent mansion, once the London residence of the legendary British prima ballerina Dame Margot Fonteyn, has been meticulously restored and transformed into one of the finest properties in the area, blending rich historical significance with modern luxury. Fonteyn House, originally built in 1928, carries with it a deep historical legacy. Between the 1930s and late 1990s, it served as the official residence of the Panamanian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, marking its status as a property of diplomatic and cultural importance. In 1955, the house became the home of Dame Margot Fonteyn and her husband, Dr. Roberto Emilio Arias, a Panamanian diplomat and son of a former President of Panama. This era saw the mansion hosting a glittering array of guests, from HRH Princess Margaret to actors John Wayne and Peter Sellers, and even the ballet legend Rudolf Nureyev, who lived there after defecting from the USSR in 1961. After its sale in 2011, Fonteyn House underwent a significant transformation led by GMA Architecture, with planning consent granted in 2016. Over the course of six years, from 2017 to 2023, the property was meticulously refurbished and extended, preserving its period garden façade while creating a state-of-the-art residence within. Today, Fonteyn House offers 15,980 square feet of luxuriously designed living space, complete with six bedroom suites, three grand reception rooms, a cinema/club room, and an impressive health spa featuring a gym and a 15-metre swimming pool. The residence also boasts a walled garden, an outside dining terrace, and a stunning rooftop garden with a kitchen and bar, providing panoramic views of the nearby Victoria and Albert Museum. The interiors of Fonteyn House are a testament to craftsmanship and luxury, featuring the finest materials and finishes. Arabescato Calacatta and Saint Laurent marble adorn many of the spaces, complemented by bespoke fittings and handcrafted oak joinery. The mansion also incorporates state-of-the-art technology, including advanced home entertainment and security systems, ensuring that every modern comfort is at the owner’s fingertips. The house’s design thoughtfully integrates the natural environment, with a stairwell atrium and skylights allowing light to flood the living spaces. The grand reception rooms, with their high ceilings and elegant detailing, create a bright and spacious ambiance, perfect for both intimate family living and large-scale entertaining. Despite its central location, just a short stroll from Harrods, Hyde Park, and South Kensington Village, Fonteyn House offers an extraordinary level of privacy and seclusion. The mansion’s gated private driveway, shared with only one other house, provides off-street parking for up to six vehicles, while the walled garden offers a serene retreat reminiscent of a country estate. The outdoor spaces are designed for both relaxation and entertainment, with a garden gallery leading to a substantial main reception room and a large inside-outside entertaining area. The walled garden, complete with a marble fireplace and built-in cinema screen, is perfect for al fresco dining or hosting guests under the stars. Fonteyn House is now available for sale, representing the pinnacle of luxury living in Knightsbridge. Priced at £65,000,000, this turn-key trophy residence offers a unique opportunity to own a piece of London’s cultural and architectural heritage, now reimagined for the 21st century. • Restored 12th-Century Abbaye des Vaux-de-Cernay Opens as Luxury Retreat Near Paris

Nestled in the heart of the Chevreuse Valley, less than an hour from Paris, lies the Abbaye des Vaux-de-Cernay, a former Cistercian abbey dating back to the 12th century. This historic site has been meticulously restored and reimagined as a luxurious country retreat. The vision behind this transformation was brought to life by Laurent de Gourcuff, founder and CEO of Paris Society, and Cordélia de Castellane, the Artistic Director of Baby Dior and Dior Maison. The hotel officially opened in October 2023, following an extensive €60 million restoration project.   "Abbaye des Vaux-de-Cernay is a place that will capture the hearts of our guests and make them want to return. I want our guests to feel as if they are in their own country home, with the added benefit of attentive service for which Paris Society is renowned," commented Laurent de Gourcuff.   A Design Rooted in History   Cordélia de Castellane, the Artistic Director behind the project, is a long-time friend of Laurent de Gourcuff and a key creative force in the restoration. With a deep respect for the abbey's 900-year history, de Castellane brought each corner of the estate to life, seamlessly blending warm, delicate motifs with carefully selected works of art. “Abbaye des Vaux-de-Cernay is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. It’s a place full of secrets, where imagination seems boundless. An edifice steeped in history, it has survived the centuries, and life here feels wonderful. This is what I wanted to convey in the artistic direction of this unique project,” said Cordélia de Castellane. The abbey’s story began in 1118 when a community of monks transformed a hidden forest site into a Cistercian monastery. Despite surviving wars and epidemics, the abbey was on the brink of ruin before being lovingly restored by art enthusiast Baroness Charlotte de Rothschild in the mid-1800s. During World War II, the forests surrounding the abbey served as a secret refuge for the statues of Versailles. The abbey changed hands several times over the years until Laurent de Gourcuff stumbled upon it in 2019 and decided to acquire it. Following four years of meticulous restoration, the abbey was reopened in 2023 and now features 145 rooms and suites spread across three distinct areas: the main building, Les Haras—the estate’s charming former stables—and a collection of individual Pavillons.   Life at L’Abbaye: 75 Hectares of Natural Beauty and Activities   The estate spans 75 hectares of lush meadows and serene lakes, offering a wide range of activities. Guests can fish or sail on the natural lake, explore the grounds by bicycle, visit art studios, enjoy a private cinema, or relax at the Kids Club by Tartine et Chocolat. The Spa, developed in collaboration with Tata Harper and managed by Paris Society, offers seven treatment rooms, a wellness area, and a heated outdoor pool. Dining at the abbey is a true culinary experience with three distinct restaurants. Le Réfectoire des Moines, with its elegant wooden interiors, offers traditional local dishes executed to perfection, while L'Auberge, with its rustic charm, serves classic French cuisine. Coming Soon: La Ferme des Vallées In September 2024, just over a kilometre from the main building, La Ferme des Vallées will open its doors. This new addition to the estate will feature 39 rooms, connected to the abbey by a small wooden pathway. Designed to complement the existing property, La Ferme des Vallées will offer a more informal, relaxed style, ideal for families, and surrounded by blooming gardens and English-style lawns. The creative touch of Corinne Sachot, known for her elegant design of the CoCo restaurant at the Palais Garnier in Paris, promises a contemporary feel for this new section of the estate. The offerings will include a Trattoria, serving delicious Italian cuisine, and Betty’s Bar, an American-style bar named after the esteemed Betty de Rothschild. The Abbaye des Vaux-de-Cernay is not just a retreat; it’s a journey through time, where history and modern luxury come together to create an unforgettable experience.   https://www.abbayedesvauxdecernay.com/

  • Cate Blanchett Rewears Custom Louis Vuitton to Premiere of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”

Cate Blanchett recently made headlines by re-wearing a Louis Vuitton High Jewellery design crafted from repurposed metal, pearls, and precious stones. The piece, first seen at the Cannes Film Festival last May, beautifully highlights the actress and the luxury fashion house’s shared commitment to circular creativity. By donning this exceptional jewellery again, Blanchett reinforces the importance of sustainability in fashion, ensuring the longevity and continued appreciation of remarkable designs. The piece was born from a close collaboration between Cate Blanchett and Louis Vuitton’s Artistic Director of Watches and Jewelry, Francesca Amfitheatrof. Together, they revived 47 white Akoya pearls, 33 grey Tahitian pearls, and 633 diamonds from three of the Maison’s previous High Jewelry collections. This creative process reflects a dedication to sustainable luxury, showcasing how past designs can be reimagined into something both new and timeless. The reworked necklace features metallic grey and white pearls, carefully hand-strung in a fluid line that elegantly spans across the chest and back. This graceful line is only interrupted by an Art Deco-inspired arrangement of bezel-set diamonds and enamelled pavé motifs, which adorn both shoulders. The design combines traditional craftsmanship with a modern aesthetic, demonstrating Louis Vuitton's ability to marry the old with the new in a way that feels fresh and relevant. In addition to the repurposed necklace, Cate Blanchett also wore Louis Vuitton Fine Jewellery stud earrings from the Ever Blossom collection, made of white gold and diamonds. The combination of these pieces further accentuated her refined and sustainable approach to red carpet fashion. Blanchett's choice to wear a repurposed Louis Vuitton High Jewellery design is more than just a fashion statement; it is a powerful message about the importance of sustainability and creativity in the luxury industry. By valuing the art of reimagining and recycling, both Blanchett and Louis Vuitton pave the way for a more responsible and conscious approach to fashion and jewellery. • Fashion Designer Lists Mayfair Apartment, Inspired by Its Monopoly Board Status

Renowned fashion designer Melanie Greensmith, the visionary behind the iconic brand Wheels & Dollbaby, has put her stylish Mayfair apartment on the market. Greensmith, who co-owns the property with her husband, Australian rock legend Mark McEntee of 'The Divinyls', was initially drawn to the home for a rather unique reason—its presence on the Monopoly board. The first-floor apartment on Maddox Street, now listed by Carter Jonas for £1,050,000, represents more than just a luxury London pad. For Greensmith, it was the realization of a childhood dream. "I've always wanted a home on the Monopoly board," Greensmith reveals. "As soon as I saw Maddox Street, I knew it had to be mine. Owning a place in Mayfair has always been a dream of mine, especially after starting with nothing." Greensmith, who splits her time between Perth, London, and Los Angeles, has cherished the apartment as her London base for the past seven years. "I like to call it my little jewellery box," she says, "with its gorgeous high ceilings and big windows. It’s perfect for people-watching and getting inspiration for my work." The apartment, infused with Greensmith's design flair, features 3.4-meter high ceilings, wood flooring, and air conditioning. The south-facing, open-plan reception and kitchen area, with its two large floor-to-ceiling windows, is bathed in natural light, providing an ideal space for creativity. The one-bedroom home also includes a modern bathroom and bike storage. During her ownership, Greensmith has welcomed a host of celebrities to the apartment for fittings, with her designs being worn by the likes of Kate Moss and Chrissie Hynde. When not in use, the apartment has been rented to students at The London College of Fashion, further intertwining the space with the fashion world. Sam Richardson of Carter Jonas Mayfair describes the property as "a very rare opportunity to live in the heart of Mayfair, moments from Bond Street and its designer stores. With its character, charm, and an enviable history, it’s the perfect city pad or London base." Located just off Bond Street, the apartment is surrounded by Mayfair’s finest restaurants and boutiques, with easy access to Bond Street tube station, Oxford Circus, and Hyde Park. For Greensmith, the decision to sell marks the end of an era, as she transitions to a quieter life in Hampstead. Yet the Maddox Street apartment remains a testament to her success, creativity, and a dream realized—all because of a Monopoly board. Priced at £1,050,000 Maddox Street is superbly located just off Bond Street and situated within some of Mayfair’s finest restaurants and designer boutiques. Bond Street tube station is moments away, as are Oxford Circus and Hyde Park. For further information, please contact Carter Jonas’s Mayfair team on or visit www.carterjonas.co.uk .
