Where To Go In The UK For An Easter getaway

Easter is just around the corner, approaching rapidly as we enter the glorious season of spring, and with it comes the first double bank holiday of the year. With four entire days off between Good Friday and Easter Monday, the world is our oyster and the opportunities for a delightful trip away are endless.

From visiting the capital to heading further afield to explore the treasures in the north, we take a look at the best places you can visit this year for a charm-filled Easter getaway.

London

Offering a plethora of exciting attractions that will keep the entire family entertained, London is a great option for an Easter break this year. If you’re looking for a fun-packed break in the capital, then visiting London is naturally a firm favourite.

During the Easter weekend, you could witness the enormous recreation of the crucifixion performed in an open-air re-enactment by Wintershall Prayers — expect huge crowds. If you want some more lighthearted fun then explore some of the art exhibitions across the city, such as the Cute exhibition at Somerset House, where you can find a celebration of all this pink and blossoming.

Perhaps a float along London’s canals would be a nice option for the family or a visit to the iconic zoo and Kew Gardens before heading to a local pub for a delicious Sunday roast.

Brighton

Brighton is always an excellent idea, and the gorgeous coastal town offers plenty of Easter-themed egg hunts every year, making it a great visit for families with young children.

From exploring the latest art exhibitions across the city, enter the iconic upside down which is sure to bring a smile to little ones, glide up 138 metres high and see 360° views of the surrounding views or simply explore the vibrant streets, Brighton promises to be a great visit for the bank holiday weekend.

Glasgow

Regarded as Scotland’s cultural centre, Glasgow has much to offer people of all ages and is a perfect destination to visit with your family if you’re happy to travel a little further afield for the Easter weekend.

Whether you’re looking to escape from the hustle and bustle of work for the long weekend or spend time with family, springtime is a fun time in Glasgow. The historical city will have a Glasgow Fun Puzzle Treasure Hunt this year where you can wander through the streets, unravelling clues and finding a prize.

From undergoing Easter Egg hunts to spending time enjoying live entertainment in pubs and bars across the city, there’s truly something for everyone awaiting in Glasgow this Easter.

Edinburgh

Spring is arguably the best season to visit Edinburgh as the city blossoms beautifully. Naturally, Harry Potter fans will be excited to wander along the cobbled streets that inspired J.K Rowland and history enthusiasts will be happy to soak up the history and art.

During the Easter weekend, you could ascend the hill known as Arthur’s Seat — a 45-minute walk each day and be rewarded with exceptional views over the city. A visit to Edinburgh would be incomplete without a wander down the Royal Mile. The road which links two royal buildings, Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse, is lined with excellent shopping opportunities capable of distracting you for hours.

If you fancy an active day out with the family, then the Water of Leith Walkway is a 12-mile path that leads from Balerno in Edinburgh’s suburbs, through the capital itself and to the Firth of Forth at Leith. Mostly leafy and full of blossoming flowers, the path follows the river and will make for a charming day out.

Windermere

A beautiful tourist favourite, the town of Windermere is just a mile from England’s largest lake. During Easter, it becomes one of the best places to rejuvenate your spirit surrounded by nature.

This destination has a wonderful poetic charm due to its deep association with literary legend Beatrix Potter, the creator of the Peter Rabbit children’s series. Little ones will love visiting the World of Beatrix Potter where you can see the charming literary characters in 3D.

Alternatively, take a historic train ride on the Lakeside's Haverthwaite Railway for an exciting train excursion where you can enjoy the stunning views of the countryside.

Peak District

The UK’s oldest and most visited national park is awakened in spring and promises to be an ideal Easter getaway for outdoor enthusiasts and families looking to enjoy nature at its finest.

Little ones will absolutely love visiting The National Forest Adventure Farm as they have organised a fun Easter Eggstravaganza where you can follow the woodland trail to meet the Easter Bunny and partake in fun activities.

Equally, head over to the Matlock Farm Park to welcome the newborn lambs or enjoy a peaceful cruise over the Cromford Canal — whatever you choose to do, the Peak District is an excellent option this year.
