Whether you're a skincare novice or enthusiast, choosing the right products for your skin can be difficult, and trying to achieve the 'perfect skin' can feel like a never-ending task.
But, with spring blooming, and the UV Index rising, making sure you are SPF protected, hydrated, and prevent ageing, should be a priority.
So, our Beauty writer, Alice Bradley, sat down to chat with skincare expert Kotryna Bajorinaite, also known as ‘Esti-Bestie’, to get her top tips for spring.
Starting in the aesthetic industry over 10 years ago, Kotryna has worked with the UKs leading doctors and nurses in the aesthetic field. Now with her own clinic in West Sussex, Kotryna delivers excellent results to her clients, working with high-performance, results driven products and treatments. Kotryna has developed an aesthetics business that caters to every skin concern and with a hands-on approach to science-first skincare, ensures her clients get the most from their treatments.
What does good skin mean to you?
“Good skin means radiating from the inside out. I believe that good skin starts from within and that a well considered, but basic routine paired with in-clinic treatments is the key to long lasting youthful looking skin.”
How can someone set themselves up with a good skincare routine?
“Depending on skin concerns and goals, I believe establishing a good cleansing, exfoliating, moisturising and protecting routine speaks volumes. If you have a basic routine down, the rest will just amplify your results. This is when you can start to add serums, pigment inhibitors and masks into your routine. If you haven’t nailed your foundations, all of that can impair your barrier, so it’s important to get the basics right first.”
Let’s talk about spring trends and spring skincare. What are you noticing that is popular this year?
“I don’t actually run my business following trends because they often die out and it is often not what the skin needs and wants. I love the fact everyone is finally moving towards looking after the skin barrier. My rule for this is; if you exfoliate it, you need to hydrate it. There has been a popular trend recently to use exfoliating toners like Paula's Choice. I found I saw a lot of people were overusing them and ended up damaging their barrier function.”
How can clients achieve 'perfect skin' at home?
“I always say at home skincare is 80% of the end goal. I don’t treat in-clinic unless the patient has established a routine at home. It doesn’t need to be crazy, but for me to assess and treat their skin once a month, it does not equate to the clients’ dream skin. The skin loves consistency, so you have to give it the goods at home too.”
What products should people invest in for spring?
“As we come into the sunnier months, it has to be SPF! Pigmentation rears its ugly head around this time of year and it's really difficult to get rid of. My go to combination is the Heliocare Oil Free paired with the Skin Better Even Tone Correcting Serum to prevent the pigment from coming to the surface. When it comes to your routine at home, swap out the thicker, more nourishing moisturisers to something more lightweight, to avoid clogging up your pores.”
