LOEWE, renowned for its innovative designs and collaborations with artists, has unveiled its most ambitious collection to date at Salone del Mobile 2024. The highlight of this year’s presentation is a series of lamps created by 24 internationally acclaimed artists, marking a significant departure from conventional lighting design.

Titled “LOEWE Lamps,” the collection features floor, table, and suspended lamps, each uniquely crafted by artists with whom LOEWE shares long-standing relationships. From April 15 to 21, 2024, these mesmerizing creations will be showcased at the Palazzo Citterio, offering visitors a glimpse into the intersection of art, craftsmanship, and innovation.

Light serves as the central medium for these works, with each artist exploring its properties through their distinctive artistic lens. The collection represents LOEWE’s eighth appearance at the prestigious furniture fair, affirming its commitment to pushing creative boundaries and nurturing collaborations with visionary talents.

For many of the featured artists, this project marks their first foray into lamp design, allowing them to experiment with a diverse range of materials and techniques. From bamboo and birch twigs to leather and ceramic, the artists have transformed everyday materials into striking luminous sculptures, inspired by both nature and human creativity.

Among the standout pieces is Genta Ishizuka’s suspended lamp, resembling an organic cell enveloped in glossy lacquer, while Dame Magdalene Odundo’s leather creation showcases sharp peaks reminiscent of sculptural forms. Enrico David’s table lamp evokes the human figure in a state of metamorphosis, while Hafu Matsumoto’s intricate bamboo weaving demonstrates the artist’s mastery of this traditional craft.

Each lamp tells a unique story, drawing inspiration from personal experiences, cultural heritage, and artistic vision. Alvaro Barrington’s standing light pays homage to New York streetscapes, while Zizipho Poswa’s ceramic masterpiece reflects her upbringing in South Africa.

The diverse lineup of participating artists includes talents from around the globe, from Venezuela to Kenya, each bringing their distinctive style and perspective to the collection. From Nicholas Byrne’s sculptural interpretations to Joe Hogan’s organic forms, the range of artistic expression is as varied as it is captivating.

In addition to the lamps, LOEWE offers a curated selection of homeware items, including ikebana vases and doorstops crafted from woven leather. Collaborative designs with featured artists further enrich the collection, from reimagined handbags by Hafu Matsumoto to intricately woven baskets by Chikuunsai Tanabe IV.

The presentation also introduces limited-edition candles featuring LOEWE’s newly launched “Roasted Hazelnut” scent, housed in vessels inspired by the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi. These exclusive items, along with the collection, are available for purchase at the Palazzo Citterio and the LOEWE Montenapoleone store.

LOEWE’s participation in Salone del Mobile reaffirms its dedication to craftsmanship and collaboration, continuing its tradition of pushing the boundaries of design and innovation. Through this remarkable collection, LOEWE invites audiences to experience the magic of art and light, bridging the gap between tradition and modernity, craftsmanship and creativity.
