Inside Switzerland’s Record-Breaking Chalet: Luxury Redefined in Gstaad

Gstaad, the jewel of Switzerland’s Bernese Oberland region, is about to welcome a record-breaking architectural masterpiece. Chalet Oberbort, developed by Unica Capital, is set to become a landmark in alpine living.

Spanning an astonishing 5,568m² (around 60,000 sq ft), this ambitious project features three interconnected chalets. Two will serve as residences, while the third is designed for staff accommodation. The development includes 11 en-suite bedrooms for residents and eight en-suite rooms for staff, showcasing meticulous craftsmanship and thoughtful design.

An Evolution in Alpine Living

Chalet Oberbort builds on the legacy of Byron Baciocchi, CEO of Unica Capital, who previously developed the world’s largest chalet as part of the Ultima Collection. Now leading Unica Capital, Baciocchi’s vision for Chalet Oberbort is to push the boundaries of what’s possible in alpine architecture and lifestyle.

Beyond its expansive living spaces, Chalet Oberbort offers over 1,500m² dedicated to wellness and entertainment. From a heated outdoor pool designed for year-round use to a hammam, sauna, and snow shower, the development prioritises relaxation and rejuvenation. A swimming pool ball pit adds a playful touch, while a fitness centre, massage rooms, and banya cater to holistic well-being.

Entertainment spaces have been carefully curated to meet the needs of modern residents. A home cinema, F1 simulator, wine cellar, game rooms, and a disco room ensure that every day offers something new. Thoughtful practicalities, such as a soundproofed ski room and bike storage, enhance the experience of living in a winter wonderland.

Car enthusiasts will appreciate the dedicated car museum, which spans 1,000m² and includes a car lift, washing facilities, and storage for up to 24 vehicles. It’s a fitting addition for a region that attracts some of the world’s most discerning travellers.

Perched at an elevation of 1,050 metres, Gstaad combines breathtaking natural beauty with first-class amenities. Known for its skiing, the village also offers year-round activities, from hiking and cycling to cultural events. The setting provides an ideal backdrop for Chalet Oberbort, which is designed to integrate seamlessly with the region’s charm.

Chalet Oberbort is scheduled for completion in 2027. Once finished, it will be available for rent, promising an unparalleled living experience that blends tradition with innovation in one of the world’s most exclusive destinations.

While details about potential residents remain under wraps, this development is already making waves in the luxury property market, setting a new standard for alpine homes. As Gstaad continues to attract global attention, Chalet Oberbort will undoubtedly stand as a testament to the enduring appeal of Switzerland’s alpine treasures.
