On Monday 14 April 2025, global pop icon Katy Perry joined five other pioneering women on a history-making voyage to the edge of space.
Travelling aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket, it marked the first all-female spaceflight in more than six decades – a monumental moment not just for women in science, but for anyone who dares to dream beyond the stratosphere.
Perry was joined by former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and journalist Lauren Sánchez. The autonomous flight, operated by Jeff Bezos’ private space firm Blue Origin, launched from West Texas and soared 106km above the Kármán Line – the internationally recognised boundary of space – before safely parachuting back to Earth.
For those inspired by the launch but more inclined to keep both feet on the ground, Florida’s Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex offers an immersive alternative that’s every bit as thrilling – minus the G-force. Best of all? It’s included with general admission.
Located within the award-winning Gateway: The Deep Space Launch Complex®, guests can step into a near-perfect replica of Blue Origin’s New Shepard capsule and embark on a breathtaking VR journey beyond the Kármán Line. Developed with leading scientists, engineers and creative producers, this state-of-the-art experience uses real imagery and flight data to authentically replicate the sensation of travelling to space – and back again.
High-resolution visuals, advanced hand tracking, and motion technology work in harmony to create a deeply immersive voyage. For visitors with limited mobility, the experience is equally accessible thanks to an external VR headset and a dedicated flight seat.
Launched in December 2023, Blue Origin’s permanent exhibit has quickly become a highlight of the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex – a destination just 45 minutes from Orlando where guests of all ages can get hands-on with humanity’s greatest space achievements. From interactive simulators and interstellar VR to walking beneath real spacecraft and meeting veteran NASA astronauts, it’s a journey that truly brings the cosmos closer.
The New Shepard VR experience is included in daily admission (from $75 per adult, $65 per child), though guests are advised to reserve a time via the Kennedy Space Center app or at the complex on arrival via QR code. A two-day ticket is also available for $89 per adult and $79 per child.
